Lately, J has made a game of taking off the marker caps and putting them on his fingers. He'll say, "I want to do funny fingers mommy!" Once they are on each finger, he waves them around and even makes up little songs.

J came up to me out of the blue one morning and said, "I'm going to touch your cheeks 'cuz they're really cutie!" He says this as he takes his little finger and presses it to my cheek. Awwwww!

I went to a dinner party for a mom's night out and daddy took care of J. I came home and my little one came running to me. I picked him up in my arms and just squeezed and squeezed him in a huge hug. He took his little hands and cupped my face saying, "You are precious, mommy." (Tears.)

One time when I stepped away to do some laundry and J realized where I went, he said, "You are a funny dickens. You snuck downstairs to do laundry you funny dickens."

Lately, J and I have been playing a rhyming game. He will ask me a question asking, "What rhymes with ____, mommy?" Some of the examples:
-What rhymes with flippers? --- Slippers!
--What rhymes with shells? -- Bells!
-What rhymes with sandals? -- Candles!
After each of my responses, J would just laugh and giggle having so much fun. I love to play rhyming with him!

One morning after waking up, J was hugging his stuffed animals; Henry the Polar Bear, his teddy bear named Teddy and his little turtle. He was trying to come up with a name for the turtle and he couldn't think of anything. All of a sudden, he looked so sad like he was going to cry. I said, "What's wrong, honey?" He said, "I'm sad, mommy. My turtle doesn't have a name." After a bit he asked, "Will you help me name him?" So I suggested we call him Shelly, since he lives in his shell. He seemed content with that.

We were watching a Land Before Time DVD while on Easter vacation at my dad's house. The dinosaurs were running away from lava that was rising up the mountain side. One of the dinosaurs asked the pteranodon to go fly to the dinosaur parents to get help and J said, "They need their cell phones mommy." I said, "Tell me more." He said, "If they had their cell phones they could call anyone they wanted!"

One morning J was watching a DVD of the show Yo Gabba Gabba. They were doing nap time with stories. He comes over to me and says, "Mommy, I'm bringing you your blanket". And he puts a little blanket on my lap. Then he says, "I'm going to read you a story." He then brings over One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and starts reading it to me. This is the very first time he's "read" me a story! It was just so sweet.

We were leaving our friend's house one night and the smell of skunk was really thick in the air. Somehow it made me think of the skunk tongue twister. A skunk sat on a stump.
The skunk thunk the stump stunk; The stump thunk the skunk stunk.*** I introduced this tongue twister to J and then he said "I have a tongue twister mommy! The skunk sat on a tree. The tree stunk! ha ha ha ha!" He kept on going and did this with "the skunk sat on ___the roof, a sign, the house", and each time he would laugh like crazy which made us laugh our pants off. I just love seeing his sense of humor develop like this!

We were driving in the car one morning on one of these spring-feeling days with the windows cracked open and my son says, "I smell something mommy!" I said "Oh, you mean my coffee?" He says, "No, I smell the EARTH!" Only recently have we been talking about the way things smell, like flowers or food cooking, and it was so neat to hear this.

J has really taken more of an interest in shapes lately. He is definitely more focused on them which is neat to see. Out of the blue one day he said, "Mommy, my nose is a triangle!" I said, "Well yes, your nose is shaped like a triangle." Then he said, My head is a square and my feet are diamonds." I said, "Who taught you this?" He said, "Me!" :)

One evening, J said "Look at me, I'm snoozing." He had found his Nuk, grabbed his blankie and was laying on the floor. Then he said, "I'm dreaming." I said, "What are you dreaming about?" He said, "I'm dreaming about mini golf." I wasn't sure I heard him right so I said, "Did you say you're dreaming about mini-golf?" He said, "Yes!" This is funny. We drive past a mini-golf place often during the week and he sees the giraffes and other animals and every time we drive past he says he wants to go mini golfing (we've never been yet). I told him we will wait until it opens in the spring when there's no snow left. Then we can play mini golf. So now he's "dreaming" about it!

That's all I captured over the past week. Thanks for your visit!

One afternoon, I was telling J it was his friend Jackson's birthday. We talked about that for a little bit and then J says to me, "Tell me my story, mommy." I said, "I'm not sure what you mean." He then repeats it a bit more insistently saying "Tell me my stoooooorrrry mommy!!!" So I told him the story of how God created him, how he grew in mommy's tummy; and that he was born and grew from a little tiny baby (only 6 pounds) to a big 25-pound almost 3-year-old. He loved the part where I told how he came out of mommy's tummy with a loud crying and strong lungs and how we stayed in the hospital for a few days and he learned how to nurse. It was sweet sharing this with him.

We found the book Pocket for Corduroy and at the end of the book, the little girl nuzzles noses with her teddy bear. It was the next day that J comes running up to me all excited and says, "Mommy, let's nuzzle noses!" I didn't understand at first what he meant until he told me "like Corduroy" so I leaned over and got the sweetest little nuzzling from J. He asks to do this now and again and it just melts my heart every time.

We are reading a chapter book (our first one) by Beverly Cleary called The Mouse and the Motorcycle. I wasn't sure if J would be able to follow along, but I've been surprised by how much he enjoys it. I notice without many pictures, he's engaging his imagination more and stops my reading to add his input and thoughts. In one part of the story, the mouse is trapped under a glass in the hotel room where he lives. He is being watched by two teachers who are enthralled by him. Ralph is not happy because he doesn't know what they will do with him. J said, "Mommy, you and daddy would go into the hotel room and get the glass off of Ralph and save him!"

One day while drinking from his sippy cup, the cup made a funny squeaking noise. J says, "It sounds like an elephant in my cup mommy!"

One day I was looking at J and he had an odd expression on his face. He was looking a bit frustrated. A couple days before he had a surgical procedure with medicine that had him a little constipated. I asked, "Are you pooping?" He said, "No, it's just a little toot."

I'm a day late today in linking up....but I've missed not being a part of this linky!

This was the cutest thing. J was eating some red grapes and he looks at his empty plate and says, "Hey mom! The grapes are going through my body!"

I got a Reader Rabbit CD-Rom from the library that J is just ga-ga over. He is finally getting to learn to use the mouse. They have this software at the library and I noticed how J just loved playing it. It is very toddler-friendly. Well, J was playing one of the songs and dancing. He tells me, "I'm dancing on my feet momma!" So I said, "Well, it's better than dancing on your head!" Next thing I know, I hear J say, "I'm dancing on my head mommy!" I look around the corner and sure enough, he's dancing while his head is on the ground. I really wish I took a picture, but I was too busy laughing! He said, "Go bye bye mommy." So I went back to the kitchen until he said, "I'm dancing on my head again!" He did this a few times and loved making me laugh.

Thanks for visiting!

It's amazing that J is now working on the concept of "today" and "tomorrow". We went to the library and into the kids area. We were the only ones there and J said, "There's nobody here tomorrow!" I said, "You're right, there's nobody here today."

OK, time for a little "potty humor". One day it was time to change J's diaper. He was playing fire fighter wearing his fire helmet so I played around saying, "OK - fire fighter J reporting for diaper change duty! Then as I'm changing his diaper he said, "I'm a stinky diaper fire fighter!" We both had a really good belly laugh from that one.

One night, J was playing with his Little People nativity set. He comes running over to me and has Mary and the donkey in his hands. He said, "Mary is talking to the donkey. She's showing him baby Jesus." Then he says, "Come see! Look it mommy!" and he runs over to put the characters back in the nativity with Mary and the donkey surrounding baby Jesus.

Another thing he picked up, maybe from the DVD Fireman Sam was something he started saying when I would help him with something. Like when I wiped off his hands and face after eating he said, "Great job, Momma Captain! Great job!"

I got the idea from another mommy's blog to make a paper plate tambourine. See Shining Our Lights. We put stickers all over it and these lovely purple jingle bells. I gave it to J when it was done and the first thing he said was, "It's beautiful!" Cute.

One night when it was dark out:
J: When will it get sunny momma?
Me: It'll get sunny tomorrow morning.
J: When it rains, the sun doesn't come out.
(This may sound so simple, but I thought it was great that he gets that concept about clouds and rain. I didn't even think about that when I gave my answer.)

Thanks for your visit!

"My Hands Are Walking"

J put his hands into his boots and said, "Mommy look, my hands are walking." He actually walked putting one hand in front of the other, it was so funny. I love seeing his little sense of humor blossom!

One afternoon we were gearing up to get our winter clothes on to go and play in the new snow. J was all excited and started dancing saying, "I'm doing a snow dance momma!"

I got J a little dinosaur notebook that he can scribble and draw in. One day he was using it to write up our grocery list! I do a weekly grocery list and lately he's been working on one of his own. Today he did the expanded version by giving me the run down of what we were going to get. He'd say something like "we need muffins" and then he'd scribble on his page, then "cheese sticks" and scribble on his page. He even remembered "daddy's juice" and "wrote" that down too.

J is really into books and for a while now he's been "reading" on his own. He will often do this during his quiet play time when he's playing on his own. One night as I was cleaning his room while getting ready for bed he started "reading" a Diego book we recently got from the library. We've read it a couple times, and it has several different stories in it. I noticed he was reading this one on his own and I was very interested to listen in so I asked him to read it to me. This was so much fun. He did so well at remembering pieces of the story as we went from page to page. I loved hearing him tell the stories and was amazed by how much he had remembered and how he used the pictures to put words together.

This was out of the blue. We were reading The Gingerbread Man and J starts talking about us dressing up as the characters when we go trick or treating! He told me I could be the gingerbread man, he would be the mom and daddy would be the daddy. I explained to him that since he is a boy he could be the gingerbread man and mommy would be the gingerbread momma. He thought that was a good idea. (And I'm saving this idea for next year!!)

Tiny Talk Tuesday (Thanksgiving Plus More)

WOW! I must have been busy last week because I missed doing my Tiny Talk post!!! So this one still has some of the Thanksgiving related snippets.

I found a Thanksgiving printable with leaves that say "I give thanks for _____." I had no idea if this would be something J would be into and understand. I introduced it by explaining again about Thanksgiving and the reason we celebrate. I said, "J what do you give thanks for?" He didn't even hesitate, and right away he said, "I give thanks for God." I had a few more leaves and each time I asked he said something else like "I give thanks for Mommy, J and Daddy"; I give thanks for Uncle Ro Ro and Kelly." This was so sweet!

We had been talking about things we were thankful for, one of the things was he was thankful for Mr. Potato Head. That made me laugh. Then he did something interesting. He got the Mr. Potato Head container and started pulling out the pieces one by one. As he did, he would say "God made glasses. God made a smiley face, God made arms....he named all the parts as he took them out saying God made them. Sweet.

One night we were getting J prepared that it was bedtime, picking up toys, picking out a book, etc. I thought he was ready until he said, "It's not time to go to bed. It's time to go to Uncle Ro Ro's house!" Apparently, I had been talking about Thanksgiving a lot so he got it in his head that it was NOW instead of LATER that we were going down to Uncle Ro Ro's. I explained to him that he had to sleep tonight and have one more day and then we'd go to Uncle Ro Ro's. He was sad and it brought a few tears.

One morning we were going to our play group. Daddy asked J, so what are you doing today? He said, "We're going to Pal Zone. That's where I'll see other boys and girls and have to share. I'm going to cry."

Later that same day, I was preparing J that we were going to the YMCA. He enters their nursery while L and I work out. I tell him in advance so he knows we'll be apart. He said several times, "I'm going to miss you while I'm in child watch, mommy!" Mommy, I'll miss you." He got into child watch and right away started crying. I told him, I know you'll miss me but I'll be back soon. He stopped crying pretty quickly and says, "I was crying." Like he was doing a little reflecting on his emotions.

One morning after daddy went to work, J said something about "his special friend". I asked him who his special friend was and he said, "My daddy. I miss my special friend. Where'd my daddy go?"

Thanks for stopping by!

Lately, I'm trying to capture these little tiny talk sayings by running to my computer and typing them up right away. It has seemed to help. I never want to cut off what J is saying by interrupting with typing, but I find that if I run right away (if we're home) I can often capture most of it. (I can type faster than I can write!)

This was a sweet compliment:
One afternoon J said to me, "What's that?" He was wondering what I was doing.
I said, "I'm cleaning the stove. The food falls down when I'm cooking and makes a mess so I'm cleaning it up."
J: "I want your food."
Me: "I'm not cooking anything right now."
J: "I like your food mommy."
Awwww! What a great affirmation!

For whatever reason, I was getting J out of the car and singing "I don't want to grow up. I'm a Toys R Us kid." J says, "I'm not a Toys R Us kid, I'm Julian. I'm 2."

I don't know what led J to this conversation, but he said, "I can't see Buca's green eyes." Buca is our cat. Then Buca started walking over toward him and J said, "Now I see Buca's eyes. He has green eyes and sharp teeth. He goes bye bye down the stairs over there." He points to the stairs where Buca goes to get food, water, etc.

One morning, I decided to let J have apple juice since he wasn't eating much for breakfast. He saw me pouring it and got excited saying, "Give it to me!" in a demanding voice. He knows to say please so I asked him, "How do you say it nicely?" He then changes his tone to a nice soft voice and says, "Give it to me?" (This was pretty funny.) I did finally get a please after that.

I'm also trying to record the sweet way he says some of his words:
He says "moon" for loon. We went up north and got to see a couple loons very far away on the lake. The coolest thing though was when we heard them. My sister got J a little loon stuffed animal that makes the loon call. He loves pressing that yet he still calls it a "moon".

We feed the birds together every week, and I like the "critter mix" that includes peanuts. For some reason, J has been calling them "two-nuts". I have no idea if that's because most of the peanuts have 2 in the shell or if it's just coincidence. So the peanuts attract the blue jays which we like, but of course we're also getting critters like the raccoon that visited the other night knocking all the feeders over. Instead of getting angry or annoyed, I told J that we want to feed all God's creatures, even when they make a mess.

Thanks for stopping by!

TINY TALK FEATURED FAMILY
What an honor! I've never done anything like this yet, and so it's quite exciting that today I'm featured on Mary's blog at Not Before 7. She's the host of Tiny Talk. Thanks, Mary for featuring me and hosting Tiny Talk!

This week I didn't get many "tiny talks" recorded, so I included a really cute video.

I was checking email on the computer when I heard J saying (out of the blue), "I will huff, I will puff, I will blow the house down." I started to join in and he said, "I'm going to blow my bed down!" (I had a little "bed" set up for him on the floor since he had asked me to make one). He then said, "I will huff, I will puff, I will blow my bed down!" (He leaned down and started blowing as hard as he could on the blankets). Then he dropped onto the "bed" and rolled around laughing. I said, "Do it again!" He said, "I can't, I'm sleeping."

J likes pretending he's a dinosaur lately and today he was making up dinosaur stories! They were kind of goofy. He said, "The dinosaur wants to taste my pancakes." Then he would say the same thing but add a different food. Then he said, "The dinosaur will eat my food, then go onto the sidewalk. He will get hit by a car and then have a tummy ache." (I told you they were goofy.)

One night, J was simply not tired. We had a family over for dinner and he was quite wound up after they left. He started singing all kinds of songs and I was able to get some of it on video. We recently got a CD from the library called Where is Thumbkin (he says where is "fun-kin"). I used to sing this song when I was a little kid! I had no idea how much he'd love this. We listen to it over and over and over mostly in the car. It was amazing to me how much he had memorized, but as you'll see we get interrupted by our dishwashing machine.

Something really cute is that J started making his own grocery list after watching me do mine. At first when he came over, he wanted to color on my list. Then I just gave him his own sheet and before I know it he's making his grocery list. He's scribbling away saying, "Raisins, bread, pizza, apple juice, beads, peanut butter and jelly." Then he told me he was all done with his list.

Lately, J has been not wanting to take his nap. He's fine right until I go to put him down and then he starts kicking and crying. One day I found out in his words why.
Me: What's going on J? Why are you so upset?
J: I'll miss you mommy. I'll miss you downstairs.
Me: I'll miss you upstairs.
J: You going to your bed mommy?
Me: Yes, mommy's going to her bed.
After our little talk, he seemed to calm down enough that I felt OK leaving.

One night when we were getting ready to go out and our babysitter was here, J comes over and says "Are you going bye bye momma?" I told him yes. He said, "I'm gonna miss you momma!" He didn't start crying either, he was just telling me he'd miss me. Oh, so sweet!

J was eating a few Doritos with his lunch and said, "Wipe my hands and my mouth?" So I'm wiping them off and he said, "My hand is spicy. It's spicy from the chips; the Doritos." It's funny, because I just thought it was cute that he's asking me to wash his orange hands (instead of trying to avoid it) but then he says something funny on top of it.

Then these two just surprised me:
J was playing with a leap frog toy with songs and the tune of Yankee Doodle was playing. He says, "That's the Barney song, mommy!" I just smiled because I wasn't sure at all what song Barney videos have. So later that day, he asked to watch Barney and sure enough, the theme song is to the tune of Yankee Doodle!!

We were putting J to bed one night. After daddy reading a book, then me reading J a book, he wanted to read something from his Lullabye Bible. We have a few bibles, and we read something from this one maybe a couple times a week. Definitely not every night. So I was flipping through the stories and found one that I started to read but then J interrupts and said, "No mommy, I want Noah's Raindrops." So I did remember there's a song/story about Noah's ark in the front of the book, and when I flipped to it, yup; the title was Noah's Raindrops. His memory is better than mine!!!

One night before dinner, J was really hungry and was asking for cupcakes. I instead gave him a little popcorn. At one point, he comes running over and gives me this really big hug. He looks up really sweetly and asks, "Momma, you want popcorn? You want some of my popcorn?" I told him sure. So he runs over to his bowl, picks out ONE kernel and comes running back, almost put it in his mouth and then thinks twice, then gives it to me. He continued to do this, running back and forth picking up one kernel of popcorn and running it over to share with me. Next, he came with his water saying "Momma, have some water." So I continued to get these little kernels of popcorn with a sip of water. He was taking care of me! I just love how he was thinking about me (someone other than his 2-year-old self) and wanting to share his snack in this way. He was really excited about it too.

One night, he was wearing his polar bear footy pajamas from last winter. He says, "I'm wearing my panda bear jammies." I said, "Yes, your polar bear jammies." He comes back over with his little polar bear stuffed animal and says excitedly, "My polar bear matches! He matches my jammies!" The funny thing is, I had tried to teach the idea of "matching" several months back starting with matching socks together. I've tried a few times since but he never really seemed to pick it up. Now I see that he gets it. I love seeing him learn.

After a restful 3 hour nap, J was in a fun mood. I let him have a few autumn M&M's and he comes up to me and says, "Shake my booty? Shake my booty momma?" I asked him where in the world he heard that. He says, "M.E. said it." So this is his cousin who was at our house Oct. 9th for my birthday. Very funny that he says it all of a sudden today, three weeks later.

One afternoon after picking up some Halloween candy, I let him have a bag of mini-oreos. He says to me, "These are amazing." Where is he getting all this fun talk?

So I'm seeing more of J's sense of humor unfolding, like in the following things he came up to me and said - out of the blue:
J: Knock knock.
Me: Who's there?
J: (says his name "J")
Me: J who?
J: Ummm.....J 2 (I think he was trying to say his name and his age, 2)

J: Knock knock.
Me: Who's there?
J: Mommy.
Me: Mommy who?
J: Momma 5! (starts laughing his head off after that one)

J: Ding dong!
Me: Who's here?
J: Daddy's here! (giggles like crazy)

J was interested in his shadow today. He wanted to wear his birthday hat from my birthday party a few weeks ago and while he was wearing it he could see his shadow on the floor. He said, "Mommy I see my shadow! I'm a shark!" I didn't get it at first until I looked and yes, his little hat looked like a shark fin! Then a little later he says, "My nuk has a shadow mommy!"

This one was sweet. I got a call from church that there is a woman going through a severe postpartum time and since I went through something similar I may be able to help her and her family. As I got off the phone, I started to cry as I thought of this woman and had a flood of emotion. J sees me crying and said, "Are you sad mommy?" I told him about a mommy from church we need to pray for and I said a little prayer for her. Then J comes over and says, mommy I give you a coloring book and crayon? You feel better mommy?" He comes back and says "I give you a nuk mommy, and blankie?" He gave me three things that he absolutely loves that are such a comfort to him. It was such a tender, sweet moment!

I only ended up capturing a couple from this past week:

One night after dinner, J came up to me and said, "My tummy is hungry." He hasn't said this before, and I found it so cute. Often, he doesn't eat a heck of a lot at dinner so I asked him what I could get him. I ended up giving him a buttermilk biscuit. A little bit later, J came up again and this time said, "My tummy is hungry again. My tummy is hungry for chocolate mommy." This was very clever. He had 2 pieces of chocolate earlier at dessert, so I think he figured if he asked this way he might get it. It was pretty cute, so I did give him another piece of chocolate.

One morning, J woke up and I found a little toy ghost under his crib. I gave him the ghost and he said, "Ghosts say boo, mommy." Then he said, "Skeletons say boo too." I said, "Do pumpkins say boo?" He said, "No, pumpkins don't say boo. Pumpkins howl like this wooooooooo."

J was "reading" books on his own sitting on the living room floor. He says, "Mommy, take my shirt off. Mommy, I'm sweaty. Take my shirt off." So I took his shirt off and he wanted a new one. I don't know what that was all about. He was just sitting on the floor reading and not doing anything strenuous!

One morning (on a regular work day) J comes up to me and says:
J: "Where did my daddy go? Where did my daddy go?" He sounded a little upset.
Me: "Daddy went to work. Do you want to call daddy?"
J: "No, I want my mommy", he says as he came over and cuddled up to me. How adorable!

I was talking out loud one day about how I can't find any of his nuks.
Me: "Where did all your nuks go? I had so many."
J: "Come nuks, come."
Me: "Come on nuks."
J: "Nuk won't come. They have no feet. They have no feet mommy.

On a windy day J said, "The trees are not talking. The trees don't have mouths." I said, "Oh, the trees don't have mouths." He said, "Yeah, the trees don't have mouths, only leaves."

It's so interesting the things they come up with!

Tiny Talk Tuesday (Are you OK mommy?)

We were going to the Y to work out and I was just starting to get J out of his car seat when I banged my elbow really hard on the door. I'm back there holding my arm and moaning "OW, OW, OW" when J reaches out and starts patting me on the back saying "Are you OK mommy? You okay?" I was okay then because this was just so cute!!!

One night after brushing his teeth J says, "Go potty mommy?" J isn't potty trained yet, but several months ago we bought his first potty and have been encouraging him to use it as he's ready. So at first when he said this, I thought he was asking me if I wanted to go but then he sat down on the potty and started to shut the door. When he realized his little stool was in the way, he got up, moved the stool and then shut the door for privacy. Too bad he was still wearing his diaper at the time!

We celebrated my 40th birthday this weekend and had family and friends over to celebrate with us. My sister was talking to J about our cat, Buca. She asked him, "Is Buca your friend, J?" J said, "No he's not. When my sister asked him why he said, "Buca can't talk!"

One of our friend's sons at the party has some really curly black hair. J was talking about him and said, "Dominic is funny momma." I asked him why he was funny. He said, "Dominic has big hair!" This was so funny to me.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

**J is 28 months old**

One night J wouldn't go to sleep and was still pretty wide awake. After reading some books, I somehow had the idea to give him his first Spanish lesson.
I said:
If you want to say "hello" in Spanish, say Hola!
If you want to say "goodbye" in Spanish, say Adios!
If you want to count in Spanish, instead of 1-2-3 it's uno-dos-tres.
So after each one, J would repeat the Spanish word, thoroughly enjoying this. Then he'd say, another one? So I went through the whole lesson once more and J says "It's Handy Manny talk!" This blew me away. We had read a Handy Manny book and they use a Spanish word here and there so I remember briefly explaining that and then we also watched the video where they use a little Spanish too. Yet to me it was so amazing that he put those two together like that! I'll have to keep this up.

One night before bed, J was playing in the living room. It seemed he was starting to wind down a bit and the next thing I know he says to me "I'm going upstairs mommy. I'm going nite nite." He starts walking towards the stairs carrying his sippy cup, his goldfish snack cup, and a long lost favorite book about the Moose's Thanksgiving. Wow, he was all set! I said, "Going to bed, J?" and J says, "Go upstairs mommy? Go upstairs?" So we headed upstairs to start our bedtime routine. This was just so cute and he's never done that before.

I pulled out our fall books and one is called Five Little Pumpkins. J was "reading" this to himself. It's a board book with only a few pages and I heard J saying, " One pumpkin smiles. Two pumpkins smile. One cries, one is happy. The end!" I love it.

Tiny Talk Tuesday ("Time Out")

**J is 27 months old**

Somewhere along this blogging journey, I found this idea for recording the funny and interesting things our little ones are saying. Here is where I like to link up and share them. Feel free to visit Not Before 7 by clicking the button above and join the fun!

I only have a few to share this week. I really can't remember those that I don't write down right away. I know there were some cute ones while we were in the car, but I didn't get to write them down.

One day this week we were coming home from somewhere and J was asking if Dave was coming over. (Dave is my husband's old roommate/friend who sometimes watches J.) I told him Dave wasn't coming over and he got really sad. He said, "I miss my friend Dave mommy. I miss my friend." This was so cute. He's said he's missed his daddy before, but not anyone else.

During breakfast, I was reading a book while I was eating my cereal. Out of the blue J says, "What are you reading mommy?" To me this just seemed like something a 4-year-old would say, not my 2-year-old. I told him it was a book all about how to raise him (Dare to Discipline by Dr. James Dobson).

We were hanging out after our mom's group which meets at church and J wandered over to the closed doors of the church area. He starts standing there with his face to the wall and I asked him, "What are you doing J?" He said, "I'm in time out mommy." I asked him what he was in time out for. He said, "Hurt mommy." It dawned on me that just before this I was changing him and while on the changing table he was kicking me. I had asked him to stop because that hurts when he does that. So he had put himself in a time out! I was floored.

Tiny Talk Tuesday

One day this week (as I do so many times) I was telling J that he is so cute. He just warms my heart with his little personality and I continue to be amazed he is ours. Well, J apparently didn't like that this time and said, "I am not cute. I am not cute mommy." I told him that cute is good. He said, "Not cute is good."

So this was a goofy little Tiny Talk moment. J had his hand in his mouth and was saying "I can't do it! I can't do it!" So I asked him what he was trying to do. He said, "My teeth - I want to take my teeth off." OK where this came from, I have NO idea! And told him, unfortunately, our teeth don't come off ;o)

I keep some of J's latest artwork hung up on our pantry door. He points to a picture he colored in Sunday school which was of Hannah from 1Samuel chapter 1 on her knees praying. He asks, "What's this momma?" So I put the question back to him since he colored it and he said, "That's Hannah. She's crying....She wants a baby and she's praying. How cute that he remembered this and he said it with such emotion too.

We went out on a date night and our friends watched J for us. When we got back J was sitting on the couch and out of the blue says, "What time is it?" Huh? We have not talking about time in a teaching way that I can think of! Daddy got a really big kick out of this. I overheard daddy retelling this story like J was thinking, come on mom & dad, I got an appointment down at the park!

Tiny Talk Tuesday

J is 27 months old

J loves lining up his little people figures in all different places (the couch, the floor, the table) and this time when he lined them up he says, "We are friends." He said this over and over. How sweet!

This was just a little cute one. He brought me a book and says, "Mommy read Hoot" (Hoot is the name of the book.) I said "I'd love to" and he said "Let's do it!" I just loved the let's do it part.

We had just pulled into the garage after doing our grocery shopping and I heard J saying something about paper. I wasn't sure what he was talking about until I turned around and saw the big thing of toilet paper beside him. He was pointing to the word "Cottonelle" and moving his finger along the word saying "toi--let pa--per" just like he was reading the word toilet paper. This shocked me! Not only that this wasn't a book but "reading" words on a product, but that he was practicing the act of reading. He will "pretend" read books telling a little story as he turns the pages, but I've never seen him do this before like he was sounding out a word.

This has got to be my favorite from the week. This happened as daddy was leaving for work one morning.
J: I want a kiss.
Me: From who?
J: I want a kiss from daddy.
Me: Quick, he's gone to the car...do you want to go get him?
J: Yeah, daddy stop! Don't go!
I told daddy to not leave yet and that J wants a kiss. Daddy asks him where he wants it. He pointed to his forehead "right here" and daddy kissed him. J says "thank you". Awwww....
